ADVANTAGES
Why fiberglass reinforcement
Besides all the advantages, costs are of course also very important. Therefore, architects and builders carefully choose their materials. Well-thought-out constructions can lead to beautiful and efficient buildings. To this end, possibilities with certain building materials, including reinforcement, are also explored. By using fiberglass reinforcement, a smaller diameter of reinforcement may be sufficient in some situations. But also with less cover and therefore less concrete. Less concrete not only saves costs, but also significantly reduces the curing time. By saving weight, crane costs can also be reduced.
PROPERTIES OF FIBERGLASS REINFORCEMENT
Corrosion resistant
Fiberglass reinforcement is corrosion resistant and therefore does not rust!
4x lighter than steel
Less weight in the end product, fewer crane hours, but also much lighter in terms of labor to work with.
More environmentally friendly
Producing glass fibre reinforcement is much more environmentally friendly than producing steel (1.9 tonnes of CO2 are produced per tonne of steel)
Longer lifespan
Fiberglass reinforcement has a longer lifespan than steel
Higher failure point
Glass fiber reinforcement has a higher failure moment than steel
High tensile strength
600 – 1600 N/mm2 compared to Steel 200-550 n/mm2
Chemically resistant
Chloride and phosphates do not attack fiberglass.
No loss of strength
The material does not lose strength at very low temperatures in contrast to the brittleness of steel at large temperature differences.
Radio transparent
The material conducts radio waves.
Thermal conductivity
The thermal conductivity of the composite is 100 times lower than that of steel.
Diamagnetic
The material is diamagnetic and therefore has a repulsive force.
Higher bending stiffness
Higher bending stiffness than steel.
